Stepping out on the track for the first time at the 2012 Olympics was Sally Pearson, who won her qualifying heat (12.57) in the fastest ever time in a 100m hurdles Olympic heat.

Meanwhile, Zoe Buckman and Kaila McKnight came 8th and 5th in their respective 1500m heats, both advancing into the semi-final.

Steve Solomon impressed all as a 400m finalist, finishing 8th in 45.14, backing up after two days of PBing at his first Olympics – a great effort by the young 19-year-old.

ACT’s Lauren Boden placed 8th (56.66) in the women’s 400m hurdles semi-final – a solid effort in her Olympic debut.

In shot put, New Zealand’s Val Adams won silver, adding to an amazing string of successes over the years.
