The Great Kanku-Breakaways Marathon and fun run on 1 June 2019, near Coober Pedy, South Australia, is an outback running experience like no other.
• 42.2km marathon
• 21.1km half marathon
• 5 km or 10km fun run/walk or ride
• 2.4km kid’s fun run (10 and under)
Held in the spectacular Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park, the race starts at the main lookout, Kanku Pulka.
Competitors will travel down from the escarpment, through the spectacular coloured hills of the breakaways country, onto the moon plain and alongside the dingo fence.
Bikes, prams and dogs-on-leads are welcome, and together with a children’s fun run, the event is truely an experience that can be enjoyed by the whole family.
Supporters and family members can watch race progress from the start/finish hub, view the exhibits, enjoy the free National Reconciliation Week barbecue and soak up the atmosphere of this special place.
Visiting competitors can stay in iconic Coober Pedy for a few days and extend their running experience into a short holiday. And with water now flowing into Lake Eyre from recent northern rains and the bird-life soon to follow, why not take the opportunity to see something utterly spectacular after the event?
